Yesterday, before our first home softball game, we had a small ceremony to honor the life of a young girl, Marissa Cordona, who played softball at Hanford West and for a travel ball team who passed away in a car accident last week. She was well known in the community, and the athletes and coaches wanted to do something special in her memory.
Both teams, Liberty and Pioneer came together to honor her. Marissa had teammates on the Pioneer team and counsins on the Liberty team. The athletes and coaches wore her favorite color, red, and released red balloons at second base, the position she played. They were there for each other wiping tears and proving that softball is more than just a game.
