The Lemoore Union School District continues to assess the constant changes and status of the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in California. The heightened awareness of this virus has led the District to implement precautionary measures for cleanliness, such as increasing the frequency of disinfecting counter tops, doorknobs, light switches, and other high-touch surfaces. Additionally, we maintain watchfulness with our students. As a staff, we will remind students about frequent handwashing or using hand-sanitizing procedures. Especially when students are entering or leaving areas, where there are large groups of students.
The District and Site administration has evaluated additional preventative measures to help limit exposure or community transmission of this virus. At present, the decision has been made to cancel field trips, which may place our students in a vulnerable situation. All LUESD Field Trips that are outside of the local area (greater than a 50-mile radius) have been cancelled. This is effective today, March 12th through Spring Break. We will reassess the situation after Spring Break and provide an update to our families and staff.
While the risk of community transmission has been low, this situation is quickly changing. Our primary concern is student safety, and we thoughtfully and carefully considered each of these decisions, as we recognize any decision will have impacts. The District and site administration will re-evaluate the need to continue limiting activities following Spring Break. At that time, the District may also know of any additional guidance from the Kings County Public Health Department that may aid District decisions. We will continue to work with local agencies and monitor decisions and directions on the state and national levels. We are thankful for your understanding and support in this challenging and uncertain situation. Please be assured that we will do all we can to keep our children safe and protected. If you have questions please do not hesitate to contact your school site administration or our district office.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Hunt, Superintendent
